Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate candy melts
- 1 tablespoon shortening (only use if using chocolate chips, do not add shortening to candy melts)
- 1/2 cup Valentine’s Day sprinkles
Instructions
- Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract and salt, then gradually mix in flour until combined.
- Chill the dough wrapped in plastic for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out chilled dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
- Place cookies on sheets, chill again for 20 minutes, then bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are just brown.
- Cool completely before dipping half of each cookie in melted chocolate and sprinkle before it sets.
