  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 large baguette, sliced into 24 rounds
  • Olive oil (for brushing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz goat cheese log (or mix with cream cheese)
  • Maple syrup, honey, or hot honey (for drizzling)
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh thyme, chives, or candied pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Coat each bacon strip in the mixture and lay them on the wire rack.
  3. Bake for 25–30 minutes until crispy, flipping halfway through. Let cool before chopping.
  4. Brush baguette slices with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and bake for 8–10 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Spread goat cheese on each toasted slice and top with chopped candied bacon. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup.
