  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles
  • 3 oz red candy melts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, egg, vinegar, and red food coloring until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently; then add hot water gradually until fully mixed.
  5. Fill cupcake liners halfway and bake for 15-17 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cupcakes before frosting with the chocolate cream cheese mixture made by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth.
