Ingredients
- 1.5 cups uncooked rice
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 nori seaweed sheet
- 1 can (7 oz) Spam
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sake
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp katakuriko (potato starch)
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Cook the rice according to your rice cooker instructions. Rinse the rice until water runs clear and add the appropriate amount of water before starting.
- Once cooked, mix in toasted sesame seeds while the rice is still warm.
- Cut the nori into six strips and slice Spam into six even pieces.
- In a frying pan, heat oil and brown each slice of Spam for about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, sake, rice vinegar, sugar, katakuriko, and water in the same pan until thickened; then coat Spam slices in this mixture.
- Assemble by layering pressed rice in a tin lined with cling wrap, topping with Spam and wrapping it securely with nori.
