  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 oz bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp liquid red food coloring
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 cup sifted confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter and bittersweet chocolate together in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Add the cooled chocolate mixture.
  4. In another bowl, sift flour and mix in salt and baking powder. Fold into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Stir in red food coloring until evenly mixed.
  6. For the cream cheese swirl, beat together cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
  7. Layer half of the brownie batter in the prepared pan, followed by half of the cream cheese mixture; repeat layers.
  8. Swirl both mixtures together gently with a knife.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
